Inconel 617/UNS N06617
Inconel 617 (Alloy 617 / UNS N06617 / W.Nr. 2.4663) is a nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy that delivers an exceptional combination of ultra-high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance up to ~1150 °C (2100 °F). Solid-solution strengthened by cobalt (10–15 %) and molybdenum (8–10 %), and protected by an aluminum-assisted oxide scale, Alloy 617 retains useful mechanical strength at temperatures where Inconel 600, 601, 625, and Incoloy 800 have long since fallen away.
Equally important is its long-term microstructural stability — no embrittling phases form during extended high-temperature exposure, a decisive property for 100,000-hour design lives in petrochemical and power equipment. Alloy 617 is a proven gas turbine hot-section material (combustion cans, transition liners, rings) and is currently being qualified under ASME code cases as the leading candidate for Very High Temperature Reactor (VHTR) heat exchangers in next-generation nuclear plants. Available in plate, sheet, strip, bar, rod, wire, seamless/welded pipe & tube, fittings, and forgings.
