Inconel 690/UNS N06690
Inconel 690 (Alloy 690 / UNS N06690 / W.Nr. 2.4642) is a high-chromium nickel alloy (Cr 27–31 %) developed specifically to solve the failure mode that plagued its predecessor, Inconel 600: primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) in pressurized water nuclear reactors. The near-doubling of chromium content gives Alloy 690 outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking in high-temperature water — making it the current industry standard for PWR steam generator tubing worldwide.
Beyond nuclear service, the high chromium content also delivers superior resistance to oxidizing acids (nitric acid, nitric + hydrofluoric mixtures) and good high-temperature oxidation/sulfidation performance — specified in nuclear fuel reprocessing, oxidizing acid production, and high-temperature furnace service. Available in seamless tube, pipe, plate, sheet, bar, rod, wire, fittings, and forgings.
